Springtime at the Capitol

Hi guys! If you are a Utah local, I am assuming you have been to the Utah capitol building in downtown Salt Lake City in the springtime. Since we just moved here (in January), I was unaware that it was a THING.

I was lucky enough to win a mini photoshoot with the amazing photographer Kenzie D. (@kennydawn on IG), and she told us to meet her on the north side of the capitol. Boy were we in for a treat! It was a beautiful day and the trees were in full bloom.

It is funny to move somewhere where the downtown area is somewhere you actually want to go and hang out, and not feel creeped out or scared the whole time you are there (read, downtown LA). Here are a few snapshots from the day, professional & not.

If you live in Utah, I highly recommend spending a little time walking around the capitol building and exploring downtown Salt Lake City! Let me know your favorite spots down there!

Help me with LIGHTING!

So we have been in our new house for over 2 months now, and I’m dying to start upgrading and changing out the “standard building” lighting. These equals a lot. Chandeliers in the entry, dining room, and over the landing in the stairway, flush mounts in a couple halls, and 3 bathrooms. I’ve been searching around, I don’t want to buy the first thing that stands out to me, I have to let things marinate, get a good deal, and ask everyone I know what they think. I don’t have an eye for interior design, I would rather just someone tell me exactly what to get and where, and they install it for me, haha! Here are some that have caught my eye…

Stanton+Chandelier  On sale for only $553!! (can you sense my sarcasm?)          Sebago-Pendant-BRWT1329 Love these for over the counter in the kitchen.

Two-light-Ceiling-Flush-Mount-Fixture-68f84255-0ea3-40d6-b869-4ccaa5ac5d9a_600 I love the neutral color of this one.    Dury-Century-Silver-Leaf-Finish-Medium-Semi-Flush-Mount-Light-Fixture-16298e58-60c7-4699-acf0-8714faeea7de_600   Obsessed with this semi flush mount! Pretty pricey though.

pb-classic-flushmount-vintage-glass-o  I’m picturing this one in our half bath, and I’m loving it!  ranarp-pendant-lamp-white__0210373_PE363788_S4Great price! & I could see these in our kitchen.

Smyth-6-Light-Chandelier-2073-LP-WG-CLR I love the long length, for over the dining room table.    acrylic-curve-pendant-o  Saving the best for last! I need this one.

Where are your favorite places to find great lighting on a budget? I need to know! Let me know your favs, and any advice you may have!

Easter with ASOS

Easter is just around the corner, and I turned to my favorite, trusty ASOS to find the perfect Sunday outfits! I love ASOS because I can literally always find something within my budget. No matter if I’m willing to spend a little bit more on a good dress, or I want just a plain tee, I always end up happy! They have good deals going on often too, like right now they have 10% off if you are a student, and free shipping when you spend over $40! Sounds like a good deal to me. Here are a few of my personal favs–

image1xxl Loving the color and detail of this ruffled dress.

image4xxl These butterfly sleeves are so dreamy, and I just picture this with a great pair of strappy sandals! Great price too, found here.

image1xxl-1 If you have an extra $338 laying around, I demand you get this Ted Baker dress. It is simply perfect in every way.

image1xxl-2 Saving the best for last…this beauty! Holy cow…paired with a Honey Slip, to hide what you don’t want seen:)

image1xxl-3 The perfect white strap heel for only $40!

image1xxl-4 These are just sort of fun for upcoming summer!

image1xxl-5 I’m assuming metallic is in because these are so good.

Our Favorite Shoes…and a GIVEAWAY!

If you know us at all, you know that we love our Freshly Picked moccs. They were the first pair of shoes I had gotten for Saylor, and we wore those babies for a YEAR straight. She had tiny feet as a baby, and they literally were the only shoes that stayed on, weren’t ginormous, and were so cute! Her first pair was PLATINUM and they matched everything! Highly recommend that color.

IMG_6202 IMG_1398IMG_9792

Freshly Picked is a small (well not “small” in the sense of it being little anymore) business out of Provo, UT. A hard working, determined mama started this company all by herself with a few random scraps of leather and has grown this company to be pretty much a household name. This company gives back so much, is always up to do a giveaway, and hosts warehouse sales around the nation so we can score awesome deals if you don’t like paying full price!

 IMG_1369 IMG_1393

A few of my favorite things about Freshly Picked Moccasins are: the colors and prints (anyone can find one they LOVE), the fit (elastic around the ankle is genius), the little footprints they start to get on the bottom after some wear, and how well they truly hold up.

{above image via Google}

I am lucky enough to give away one pair of soft soled moccs to a lucky person! Head to my IG @robynmeacham to find out how you can win, and better follow @freshlypicked while you are at it!

Can’t wait to hear what everyones favorite colors are!

A New Cookie Recipe!

Hi guys! So if you know me, you know that I have perfected the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe (which I will share later), and I don’t stray from it. The other day my sis told me that she was given a new cookie recipe that I had to try, and that it might give my recipe a run for its money! Too good to be true?! You be the judge.

IMG_9440 IMG_9432

Saylor helped me whip up a quick batch yesterday…she likes being included in things and feeling like she is helping me. I love that about this age…even if it really just makes more of a mess, haha.

Here is the recipe:

3/4 cup white AND brown sugar

3/4 cup butter flavored Crisco

2 eggs

1 T vanilla

2 1/4 C flour

1 t salt

1 t baking soda

1 bag of MILK chocolate chips

Bake at 325 degrees of about 10 minutes, more if you like well cooked cookies. If you are in higher elevation (like me, in Utah) I always add more flour to my cookies. About 1/4-1/2 CUP more.

These cookies are good, but not as good as mine! 🙂 Now I am going to let you into a super secretive secret to make all cookies exponentially better. ADD SEA SALT to the tops of them before baking. TRUST ME!! Just a little sprinkle is all you need, and that slight salty flavor will hit the spot with every bite. I just use this kind pictured from Costco.

Do you guys have a tried and true Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe that you never stray from? I’d love to hear it! I love cookies! Are they anyone else’s go to sweet treat? Let me know if you try this recipe and what you think!

The Ultimate Debate…

…between Swig and Sodalicious. That’s right, I’m here to let you know which is better. Well, maybe not better, but I’m going to break down the differences in drinks, cookies, price, and service!

Before moving to Utah, the closest thing we had in California to a “cutesy drive through personalized soda stand with cookies” was Sonic, ha. So you can understand my excitement. I love cookies! And I love Diet Coke with flavoring! Every basic mom’s dream! We moved just a few miles away from a Swig, with a Sodalicious not much further away. Because Swig was in my path of driving, that is where I would frequent.  One day I had the brilliant idea to compare the 2 places. People up here seem fiercely loyal to either one or the other.  I had to dissect the differences and figure out what differences, if any, there were. Aren’t you so happy I am doing this for you?

Ok first off let’s start with pricing. I got the exact same thing at both places, a 32 oz Diet Coke with coconut and lime, and a chocolate chip cookie. YUM!  Sodalicious totaled a whopping $4.04, with Swig just a bit cheaper at $3.74. Not a huge difference. I also learned that Sodalicious does a “Two Punch Tuesday” system, and Swig has a few hours on Wednesday where you can upgrade your drink size for free.

Drink wise of course they were very similar. Sodalicious was a little bit more flat, but the flavoring was better. Swig had more carbonation which I prefer, but they were heavy on the lime. Both have pebble ice which is points for both! Pebble ice over everything.

Next up we have my favorite part, the COOKIES. For those who don’t know me personally, I LOVE COOKIES. Seriously give me all the chocolate chip cookies and I am a happy girl. My go to midnight snack while watching reality TV, my go to dessert, my go to mid day snack to go with my diet coke…get the picture? I have even discovered the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe which I will cover in a future blog post.

Swig cookie on top, Sodalicious cookie on bottom. Swig cookies come cold/sort of frozen which I LOVE. They have a sweeter taste to them. Sodalicious cookies remind me of ones that I would make at home, which isn’t a bad thing. They use big milk chocolate chips which I am a fan of. Overall, I would choose Swig cookies 8/10 times.

Last thing I will touch on is the service. I’m not one to go blast every bad experience I have as a customer, but I appreciate people who are nice and friendly! With that being said, Swig wins this category. I felt happier leaving there! I know people have bad days and I know it probably won’t be like that every single time, but these are my experiences and opinions. 🙂

Overall, I prefer Swig. I feel like I enjoyed the experience more, and I will just tell them to go easy with the limes. And I honestly can’t stay away from their cookies. Now tell me, which do you prefer?!

IMG_9203 Yes, I got LASIK 2 days ago, haven’t washed my hair, and am sitting in the back of my car haha. #moreroom #betterlighting

Jackson Hole Weekend Trip

Hi all! Life, like always, has been busy around here. This past weekend we spent some time in Jackson Hole, WY. Our good friends have a condo there, so we stayed with them. They are about 5 minutes past actual “downtown” Jackson Hole (you know, where the famous antler arches are), right at the base of the gorgeous Tetons. It is always so nice to get away, spend some time together as a family, and enjoy nature!

IMG_9005       IMG_9009             IMG_9012

We didn’t have much planned, aside from a sleigh ride through the Elk Refuge! Although we have been to Jackson Hole a few times, we have never done this before. I highly recommend it! And definitely do it when it is sunny and (warmer) out, as soon as that sun goes down the slightest bit or the wind kicks up, it gets FREEZING! Luckily they have blankets on each sleigh for everyone to use. Now when I say sleigh, its basically a large wagon pulled by 2 horses, so don’t get confused, haha! Saylor loved being able to see loads of “elks” and being pulled by horsies. On the refuge there are many different types of animals besides elk; bison, wolves, bald eagles…we only saw elk though. Tickets for this run about $20/adult, $15/child, and 4 years old and under are free!

IMG_9021 *selfie with the elks, duh*

After the sleigh ride we ventured back into town and went to a nice dinner at the Million Dollar Cowboy Steakhouse. If you are familiar with Jackson Hole, you know the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, you can’t miss it. It is right in the heart of town, but the restaurant is sort of hidden. You walk in to the bar part of the place, and you have to go down stairs basically into the basement for the restaurant. This was my first time there, and because it was at a bar, I didn’t have very high expectations. Boy was I WRONG! This place is incredible. If you don’t eat meat, just disregard this whole paragraph, as that is basically all that is on their menu. Ok so this place is fancy. Like be prepared to spend more than you would than at your average Red Robin. We decided just to go all out and get some yummy appetizers and a few steaks. Best Tuna Poke and Creamed Spinach ever! I would go back there again just for those 2 starter dishes. I myself am actually not a big meat eater, and they especially had a lot of “gamey” meat, like buffalo and deer. I wish I had pictures, but I’m terrible about taking pictures and really trying to be better!

Everything seems so fresh and clean in Jackson Hole, the skies seem more blue, the air seems to smell better…it is one of my happy places. If you haven’t had the chance to go there, I highly recommend it! From the Salt Lake Valley it is only about a 4 hour drive, so it can easily be done! For those who have been there, what are your favorite things about Jackson Hole in the winter and summer time?

Lots of love,

Robyn 🙂

Bathing Suit Blues

Well, it is that time again! Spring is right around the corner and you start thinking about vacations, and warm weather, and the unavoidable bathing suits. Haha. Unless you live in Southern California that is, where it is always a perfect 85 degrees and you can wear a bathing suit year round.

If you are like me, I am always on the hunt for the perfect suit! You know, comfortable, cute, not too revealing, a reasonable price…all the good things. Luckily, one pieces and not-so-skimpy two pieces have been on the trend lately, so that gives us a lot more options! I have a hard time paying, actually I just will not pay, more than like $80/$90 for a swim suit, I just can’t do it. I’ve scoured the internet and found some of the best suits for the best prices (in my opinion) 🙂

This tankini top from Kingdom and State is pretty much everything I could ever want. I love the coverage, print, and pair it with a pair of high waisted or bikini bottoms, and you are set!

Has anyone heard of Rosegal before? Or shopped there? I’m pretty sure that it is a China site, and it makes me a little nervous. BUT! I have shopped from other sites similar before and have been really happy, so I am going to purchase these 2 suits and give them a try. With being so tall (5’9″), sometimes buying one pieces online never works, but they are so cheap that I know I would easily be able to resell them for what I paid.

1452551351017688792 *curious how this one will do in the chest region (#mombod)…will report back.

I have never purchased anything from Revolve Clothing before, but this stunner good out to me! First, you can never go wrong with black, and I love the simplicity of it, with a little bit of fun detail!

Please tell me you haven’t forgotten about American Eagle! Obviously that is where my whole wardrobe was from in high school (think collared shirts under sweaters, thick strapped corduroy flip flops, slip on clop thingys…you know what I am talking about!)…and now they are even my go to for a great pair of jeans. As I was browsing I found myself on AE’s website, and I was impressed! They have a ton of cute (& modest) options for super reasonable prices! This gold ruffle piece is a fav.

Last but certainly not least, something from our favorite place, Target! For $25 this could either be the best deal ever, or it could be really bad. It is sort of a bummer that it’s an online only item, but it is definitely worth a try…it’s so dang cute!

Now tell me, where are your favorite swimsuits from, and what do you look for in the perfect summer suit?

Bath Time Faves!

Today I am going to talk about my favorite bath products and company for Saylor (even for myself!). I am sure you have all heard of Tubby Todd by now, but let me tell you my experience with them and why I will never use anything else for my kids!

I discovered Tubby Todd on Instagram, and finally bought her bath set at the Mom Made Market in San Diego (side note, if you’ve never been to that, you must go). The Bath Set includes bath wash, lotion, and bubble bath. The first thing I noticed was the SMELL. Everything smells divine! Not too strong or overpowering, but the perfect amount. If you have ever been on Soarin’ Over California at California Adventures, the bubble bath smells like the orange groves! Or if you have ever driven through the orange groves in Redlands when they are blooming,  you know exactly what I am talking about! The lotion and bath wash are lavender scented, which of course everyone loves. It is also calming, which is pretty much a necessity when you have a crazy toddler! Now this bath wash lathers better than anything else I have ever tried, and I really appreciate that. A lot goes a long ways with these products! Another plus is that everything is all natural, and super good for sensitive skin and skin prone to eczema.

Let’s talk about the Dream Cream now. I bought this specifically for my dry hands. I have naturally dry skin, and in the winter, it gets even worse. And imagine moving to Utah. Not good! I have also used this on Say’s cheeks when they get wind chapped and dry. This cream is thick and silky, and not sticky at all! I keep one in my purse and one at home at all times. This has a totally different scent, a slight hint of mint, which is perfect.

Now if you didn’t know, Tubby Todd is a small shop owned by a young MOM. One of us! If you have followed her on Instagram (@tubbytodd), you know how passionate she is about her company. She saw a need in the bath time market, and filled it! I know that for me personally, I would so much rather support a hard working mama, than a big box store, or someone who doesn’t really care. Now if you haven’t tried it…I suggest that you go now! If you sign up for her newsletter, you can receive 10% off your first order. Happy bathing!
